The guys of the first and second guy level of Thurnau transmitter are divided by insulators in conventional manner as the upmost guy screens it from high static charges during thunder storms. So close to their common anchor basement, there is no coil for grounding.

The guy of the upmost level of Thurnau transmitter is divided by an insulator. However, there is still the possibility that the rest of the guy disturbs too much the radiation of the transmitter. In order to solve this problem, there are two ways:
1.) Dividing the guy by further insulators
2.) Grounding the guy with a coil with an inductivity chosen in a way that the disturbance by the guy is very small.

Way 1 has the disadvantage that especially at very tall masts at certain weather conditions high voltages at the guy sections may occur, requiring insulators designed for much higher voltages than that produced by the transmitter and voltage arresters bridging the insulators, which are expensive to maintain.

At Thurnau transmitter for the upmost guy level, way 2 was chosen. The coil for grounding the guy is situated close to the anchor basement.

Basement of the mast of Thurnau transmitter. One can see the huge insulator on which it stands and the feeder line used for feeding it with the radio power to be radiated. The coil in the line prevents too fast voltage rises, which can occur in case of a lightning strike and damage the transmitter.

Thurnau transmitter is a mediumwave transmitter working on 549 kHz with 100 kW south of Thurnau, a town in Northern Bavaria, Germany. It uses as antenna a 240 metres high guyed mast insulated against ground. The mast is electrically enlengthened as the guys of the upper level are connected directly toward the mast and divided by an intermediate insulator.

The two 120 metres of Heusweiler transmitter. The mast on the right is a mast radiator insulated against ground, the mast on the left is equipped with a cage antenna on the lower part similiar to the ARRT-antennas realized in Ukraine.
The wires of the cage antenna, which are triple conductors are fixed with insulators designed for 110 kV at the two upper rings, which are fixed at the mast. The lowest ring is the collector of the cage antenna and fixed with insulators at three steel poles.

Heusweiler transmitter is a very powerful mediumwave broadcasting station at Heusweiler north of Saarbrücken in Germany. It actually broadcasts on 1422 kHz with 400 kW and 1179 kHz with 10 kW.
Until Mid of 1990ies the transmitter used a power of 1200 kW at daytime. The heat generated by the transmitter was used for heating a ( now closed) indoor swimming pool!
Over the nearby motorway shielding wires were spun, in order to protect vehicles from high power transmitter radiation. Interestingly a bridge over the motorway open for cars is not shielded.
Heusweiler transmitter has 3 masts: 2 with a height of 120 metres used for broadcasting on 1422 kHz and a 50 metres high mast used for broadcasting on 1179 kHz.
The 50 metres high mast and the western 120 metres high mast are insulated against ground. The eastern 120 metres high mast was also insulated, but is now grounded and equipped with a cage antenna.
