Etzenricht HVDC back-to-back station, situated east of Etzenricht, a village in Northeast Bavaria, was built from 1991 to 1992 for the interconnection of the Bavarian and the Czech power grid, which was necessary at those days, because the Bavarian and the Czech power grid were operated asynchronously at those days.
On July 9th, 1993 it went after a several month-lasting phase of tests and trial operation which started with the completion of the powerline to the substation Hradec in Czech on September 3rd, 1992 officially into service.
Etzenricht HVDC back-to-back station ( German designation: GKK Etzenricht, which means Gleichstromkurzkupplung Etzenricht) operated at a DC voltage of 160 kV and was capable of transmitting a maximum power of 600 MW. It used 864 thyristors of the type U78 S346 S34, which was the largest thyristor available at the beginning of the 1990ies.
On October 18th, 1995, it got obsolete and was shut-down as on this day the power grids of Bavaria and Czech were synchronized and no HVDC back-to-back station was required for interconnection any more.
In 1997, it was partly dismantled, however most parts remained on the site, as it was planned to sell the installation to Eastern Europe for the realization of an interconnection between the now asynchronously operated power grids of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. However this was not done and so in spring 2009 all remaining parts of Etzenricht HVDC back-to-back station were dismantled and scrapped.
Only the valve hall is still in place.

Начинается операция под названием День сайта. Это комплексная модернизация сайта, буду редактировать его начиная от осмотра неправильных подписей к фото, редактуры очерков, заканчивая заливкой фотографий и видео с нового сезона. Конечно это займет вовсе не день а недели две-три. Это так сказать реформа сайта, впервые с 2008-го года.

Interesting that in the United Arab Emirates, there are warning signs when a road runs under a powerline, see www.panoramio.com/photo/28311442 . I know only an other location where such a sign was: at Forsmark Nuclear Power Plant in Sweden, where it says that a 400 kV-line crosses a road in a height of 18 metres.

The mast of Hirschlanden Mediumwave Transmitter, Height: 40 metres, Year of built: 1963.
The facility broadcasts the AFN radio program for the US soldiers in Stuttgart area on 1143 kHz with 10 kW. Between 2001 and 2003 and 2005 and 2008, it was also used for broadcasting on 738 kHz with 5 kW. The transmitted programmes were MEGARADIO between 2001 and 2003 and Truckradio between 2005 and 2008.

As at many other HVDC schemes, HVDC Volgograd-Donbass can be also operated as monopolar line with ground return.
Therefore from both terminals lines to the grounding electrode depart, which have as the main line two conductors, but
are fixed on concrete poles ( suspension towers) and lattice towers ( strainers). The electrode line look like a 110 kV powerline with 2 conductors.

Mühlacker transmitter is not the only mediumwave broadcasting station near Stuttgart: south of Hirschlanden, there is
a small mediumwave station broadcasting the program of AFN for the US-soldiers in Stuttgart area on 1143 kHz with 10 kW.
It uses as antenna a 40 metres tall guyed mast radiator, which was built in 1963 and is as the both masts at Mühlacker
insulated against ground.
The mast was used between 2001 and 2003 for broadcasting MEGARADIO on 738 kHz and between 2005 and 2008 for broadcasting TRUCKRADIO on the same frequency.
These transmissions took place simultaneously to that of the AFN program.

and the aircraft warning lights of the mast with electricity as it has a high voltage against ground when the transmitter is working.
The fed is performed by a cable, which runs inside the winding of a coil. This coil is switched between ground and transmitter exit and forms together with a paralell-switched capacitator a resonance circuit for the transmission frequency and blocking so its flow to ground while signals of other frequencies in the cables inside the coil can travel onto the energized mast.
